I found the photo above posted on Yahoo News.
The text under photo reads:
"A puppy sleeps under a U.S soldier's hat and rifles in Baquba, in Diyala province some 65 km (40 miles) northeast of Baghdad November 6, 2008"
It absolutely brought me to tears.
There have been some heartbreaking stories, some with good endings, of our young soldiers, men and women, befriending homeless animals, mostly dogs, but also some cats, while in Iraq. Some of them have fought to bring these animals home with them when they return to the US. Some animals have made it, many have not.
I feel so strongly about US soldiers getting to bring animals back from Iraq when they return from duty there!
I support this cause not only for the sake of the animals, but, in my heart, as a forever Army wife,
I support this cause for the soldiers.
These young men and women are coming home deeply scared...and I think we all know how HEALING an animal's love can be. To make them leave behind a dog or cat that may help them adjust to life back to the US is so cruel to me, not only for the dog but for the soldier who has adopted the animal while there.
I have made two contributions to this cause and will continue to do so until all of our troops are home again.
